I doubt you could get the control scheme of more complex games down on an iphone. There just wouldn't be enough precision. Also Mac has always been bad at the gaming industry, why would they suddenly jump into the forefront? Nintendo and Sony will still dominate for years, Im sure of that.

There has always been talk of cell phones taking over for gaming handhelds. The reason this didn't happen was because of performance. At this current point in time, performance is not an issue. Another reason is brand loyalty and this is still true today. Casual and hardcore gamers trust the Sony and Nintendo brands for portable video games. The iPhone has a lot more casual games that may not be able to satisfy a person for more than a short time (maybe 20 minutes or less).

The next generation of iPhone could dominate the portable gaming market if they focus on that market.

Hmm, there seems to be a lack of screen real-estate to incorporate a control pad. The more entertaining games on the iPhone right now make use of either the touch-screen or accelerometer controls. I guess it will be a strong contender for casual games but I doubt it would be able to replace the Nintendo or Sony consoles, they were built for gaming after all.

Sorry - I should have been more explicit. I am considering the iPod Touch to be a big player here as well - and it had a massive Christmas. For the non-phone users, the Touch will replace Sony / Nintendo.
