I would say that Netflix has generally been viewed as being even better at recommendations. If Amazon could leverage Netflix's recommendation technology to help with their up and cross selling the acquisition may pay for itself over the coming years.

dude why would Amazon pay $2+ billion for NFLX streaming service – I am sure that could create their own for less than $20 million!! It is really all about negotating contracts with studios – something anyone could do – and loading the movies digitally – which amazon already has done much of this
