Spotted: Zynga’s Billboard on 101 (Grand Avenue)

This week, I wrote about the resurgence of billboard advertisements on 101 – spotlighting Droid, eBay, Zazzle, Yahoo and Zynga. While driving this morning, I captured this photo of Zynga’s billboard on 101 around Grand Ave (exit 425):

With no direct branding other than the red / white dog – I do wonder how many people (even in Silicon Valley realize this is Zynga’s logo. And worth noting, there is no direct call to action particularly considering that Zynga’s activity is within its games’ brands.

  • I feel like this has been up for a while but it sure as heck stands out. I guess it's not surprising I recognize the logo though :( skewed sample!
  • I recognized it... skewed again. But no one else in the car did
  • Ryan, I saw the same billboard this past week and have a couple thoughts. To begin, it's starkness immediately caught my attention. It was the only billboard I can even remember seeing on 101 and I thought about it for a couple minutes afterwards.

My guess is that they'll add incremental info in the form of text and/or graphics in phases to deliver their intended messaging over time. It's basically a teaser tactic, and they've now trained people (at least me) to look for the next "chapter". I think it's a clever tactic/strategy.
  • Jeff - you are a pretty good guesser!
  • Agree - good guessing / thought process. Would be akin to the Google Docs / Suite billboard campaigns
